REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS (RFP)/CALL TO ARTISTS ~ STATE ROUTE 49 ROUNDABOUT SCULPTURE PROJECT
The Auburn Arts Commission is seeking a design-build artist to create and install a sculpture (the “Project”) within the traffic roundabout currently under construction by California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) at the intersection of Lincoln Way (State Highway 49) and Borland Avenue in Auburn, California. The sculpture will be viewed by traffic entering or leaving Auburn from the American River Canyon, the historic Lincoln Highway and local community.
The Project may cover a maximum of 60 feet in diameter within Caltrans limitations. The Hwy 49/Lincoln Way roundabout is the first of its kind for the City of Auburn, opening in 2025 with potential art installation in 2026. A successful artist will propose a design that is original, unique and impressive.

To more fully inform potential proposers of the nature of the Project and address all questions for the benefit of all proposers, a Proposers’ Conference will be held in-person and over Zoom.
